Description:
|
THERE IS NO START BOX AT CARSON PASS. This easy hike takes you to Lake Winnemucca, a pristine wilderness lake at the base of Round Top Peak. This walk gives you the most "bang for the buck" when it comes to effort and scenic reward. My 84 year old mother hiked this trail. The 6K walk goes to Frog Lake, a smaller and less scenic pond. You must contact the POC to register for this walk! A signed start card and credit payment (make checks out to “SWS”) can be mailed to the address shown. There may be snow covering the trail near the beginning and/or end of the Seasonal period, so contacting the POC is a must. Peak wildflower season is July. There is no water along the route nor at the start – bring a filter that eliminates giardia or bring plenty of water. This is a high elevation walk and there is one short stretch that is rated 4. Be prepared for wind and rain. Late afternoon downpours are common in the Sierras as well as low humidity – bring lots of water. You will be entering the Mokelumne Wilderness, so there are no services, only beautiful scenery. Dogs must be on a leash at all times, even yours. Groups are limited to 12 people. There is a parking fee at Carson Pass ($5 as of June 2009) and the only restrooms are there. Email your questions about this walk. California County: Alpine
