Description: Daily, dawn to dusk. The ACLT is in a scenic, rustic area. The trail is on natural surfaces, ncluding steep hills. Wet weather will make the trail more difficult. Featured is a boardwalk through a swamp and several footbridges over small streams. You will also visit the American Chestnut tree from which the property takes its name, as well as an old family cemetery. The Start Box is located on the porch of the small, wooden building to the right front of the parking area. Also, please sign the Visitor's Log at the ACLT main trail entrance to promote continued funding for the Land Trust. There are no restrooms and no water at the start/finish or along the trail. There is a working privy along the trail. It is highly recommended that you stop for water and restrooms at one of the establishments along Route 4 in Prince Frederick.

Start Point / Driving Directions: American Chestnut Land Trust - Scientists Cliff Road, Port Republic, MD 20676 - Take Capital Beltway (I-495) to Exit 11 (Pennsylvania Ave., Route 4 South), Continue south on Rte 4 toward Prince Frederick (about 35 miles), passing Upper Marlboro and crossing over Rte 301 and the Patuxent River. Rte. 2 joins Rte. 4 south of Dunkirk. Go 4 miles south on Rte 2-4, from the intersection with Rte. 231 in Prince Frederick. Shortly after passing the traffic light at Rte. 264 (Broomes Island Road) in Port Republic, turn LEFT onto Parker's Creek Road. Cross Rte 765 (St. Leonard Rd) and proceed to intersection of Scientists Cliffs Rd and Parker's Creek Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Scientists Cliffs Rd, and proceed 0.8 miles to American Chestnut Land Trust parking lot on the LEFT.
