Description: The Cuyamaca Peak Loop is a beautiful nature hike along fire roads and single track dirt trails in the state park. There are terrific views along the way and 360 degree views at the peak. This area was burned in '04 and now is a combination of lush undergrowth and artistically witchy bare tree branches. Wildflowers are excellent here in Feb/Mar. Total gain is 1650' and this is a challenging but worthwhile route. Several miles are on a tarmac fireroad (ranger traffic only) and the rest is on soft surface trails or dirt fireroads. You can view pictures of this route on our website. MISC: Dogs are not allowed in CA state parks. This is a wilderness hike, so hiking boots and a hiking partner are recommended. Like most of So Cal, the park is signed for mountain lions and rattlesnakes so don't hike alone. This area can be very hot in summer and is best Nov-May. Carry plenty of water on the trail and take a hat and sunscreen. Not advised during rain because the trails get very slick. There is a $6 day use fee to park in the state park unless you have an annual CA state park pass. Restrooms at trailhead.
