Description: Sunrise to Sunset. Monument entry fee is extra. For information on the large campground, contact the Monument, 520-387-6849 or Rt 1, Box 100, Ajo, AZ 85321. The walk route traverses the Desert View Nature Trail and the Victoria mine Trail, going through typical Sonoran Desert habitat, including trail-side organ pipe and saguaro cacti, with panoramic vistas stretching into Mexico. The outsides of the abandoned remains of the Victoria Mine, a 19th century gold and silver mine, can be explored. Wear sturdy shoes and carry water. Southern AZ is very dry. Summer temperatures will be over 100 degrees.

Start Point / Driving Directions: You Must register for this event in Ajo - about 35 miles north of the Monument. The Registration Point is the Ajo Chamber of Commerce, 400 Taladro St, Ajo, AZ 85321. Ajo (Spanish for Garlic) is located on Hwy 85, 108 miles SW of Phoenix and 140 miles west of Tucson. From Phoenix, take I-10 to Hwy 85 near Buckeye; south on Hwy 85 to Gila Bend, then further south on Hwy 85 to Ajo. The registration box is on the southern end of Ajo, outside the Chamber of Commerce. Follow Hwy 85 through town. The C of C is on the right, two blocks past the plaza. A box containing maps/directions is located outside the C of C visitor center. From Tucson, take Hwy 86 (Ajo Way) west to Why, AZ where it meets Hwy 85. Take Hwy 85 north to Ajo. The C of C is on your left behind the fire station as you enter the town.
