Daily - 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Andersonville, or Camp Sumter as it was officially know, was one of the largest Confederate military prisons established during the Civil War, and now site of a active National Cemetery and the National Prisoner of War Museum which was dedicated in 1998, and is dedicated to all the men and women who have served as POW'S and suffered captivity. The old Civil War Prison site is marked out with markers and monuments and covers 26 1/2 acres to hold the 45,000 Union soldiers who were confined there. The prison was designed to hold 10,000 prisoners but at one time there were as many as 32,000 prisoners in captivity. Credit Only event.

Start Point / Driving Directions:

GA 49, Andersonville, GA 31711. Going South on I-75, get off at Exit 135 (Perry) and go southwest on GA-224. You will pass thru the town of Montezuma. Just outside Montezuma, turn right on GA-26 When you get to GA 49, turn left and head South, Andersonville will be on the left. Heading North on I-75 get off at Exit 101 go West on GA 280 to Americus. Take GA 49 North to Andersonville. Andersonville will be on your right after you pass the village of Andersonville.
