ELIGIBILITY
|
These
events are open to the public. All are welcome to participate. Everyone
must register and sign the insurance waiver at the start, fill out and
carry a start card and turn it in upon completing the walk. Children 12 and
under must be accompanied by an adult.
|
|
CONDITIONS
|
Always
check weather conditions before starting on the trails, there is not much
cover. Walkers should carry water during hot weather. Trails should be
suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Pets are allowed, except in the
National Cemetery and public buildings, but must be on a leash. Please
clean up after your pet. Littering along the trails is prohibited. All
walks must be completed during daylight hours.

FEES
|
There
is no charge to participate without receiving IVV credit. The fee for IVV
credit is $3.00 per event. The cost for credit and the award is $7.00.

CLASSIFICATIONS
|
For
each event, you may receive two stamps in your IVV Event book per year, one
for each half year. There is no limit to the IVV distance credit that may
be earned per year.
Walk 1 qualifies as Artistic Heritage, Authors and Literary Landmarks,
Historic Churches, Hooray for Hollywood, Museums, Railroad Heritage,
Veteran Memorials.
Walk 2 qualifies as Artistic Heritage, Authors and Literary Landmarks,
Cemetery Stroll, Historic Churches, Hooray for Hollywood, Museums, Veteran
Memorials. 5K option does not qualify for Historic Churches and
Artistic Heritage.
Walk
3 qualifies as Authors and Literary Landmarks, Cemetery Stroll, Historic
Churches, Hooray for Hollywood, Museums, Native American Culture, Veteran
Memorials. Only the 15K option qualifies for all of the special
programs identified. The 5/10/11K options do NOT qualify for Cemetery, and
Historic Churches.
Bike
qualifies as Authors and Literary Landmarks, Cemetery Stroll, Historic
Churches, Hooray for Hollywood, Museums, Native American Culture, Railroad

TRAIL DESCRIPTIONS
|
Walk 1 10K This walk starts at the YWCA. This trail
takes in the area of most of the fighting on the first day of the battle .
This includes Seminary Ridge, the Railroad Cut, Oak Ridge with the Peace
Light, as well as the college campus, and the North and West areas of
Gettysburg. The trail is mostly on paved park roads and city sidewalks with
a short distance of road shoulders and gravel path.
Walk 2
10K You must drive from the start point to the Visitors Center to start
this walk. The trail takes in some of the area of the fighting on the
second day of the battle. This walk includes the National Cemetery, the
Jennie Wade House, Culp's Hill, Spangler's Spring, and the south and east
areas of Gettysburg. The trail is entirely on paved park roads and city
sidewalks. The trail is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Pets must
be leashed.
Walk 3 10K You must drive from the start point to the
Visitors Center to start this walk. The trail takes in most of the area of
the fighting on the third day of the battle; it also includes areas of the
fighting on the second day. This trail takes in most of the area of
fighting on the third day of the battle, but also includes areas of
fighting on the second day. Included in the walk are the Peach Orchard,
Wheatfield, Devil's Den, Little Round Top, and the Angle at the High Water
Mark, site of Picketts's Charge The trail is entirely on paved paths and
park roads. The 15k option includes most of the 10k trail plus the
Confederate line on Seminary Ridge, the National Cemetery, site of
Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, and the South and West areas of Gettysburg.
The trail is on paved park roads, road shoulders, and city sidewalks.
Bike 25K This trail starts at the YWCA. It
is a figure 8 on paved roads around and through the Battlefield and Gettysburg.

DIRECTIONS
|

Take your
favorite road to the square in Gettysburg, PA
(US15 and Business US15, US30, PA116, PA34, or PA97) From the square go
south on Baltimore St. (Bus US15 south, PA116
west) 1 block to Middle St. Turn right (PA116 west) and drive 7/10 mile
through the traffic signals at Washington St., Franklin St.,
West St., and Confederate Ave./Seminary Ridge. The YWCA East
driveway and sign is 1/10 mile past Confederate Ave. on the right. After registering you must drive
approximately 2 miles to the walk start point.
