WELCOME: This event is a non-competitive walk sponsored by the Volkssport Club of West Point. It is open to everyone and is free if you do not want IVV credit. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
AWARD: No award.
FEES:
- Events are free to those who wish to participate without receiving IVV credit/ The event may be walked a second time on this day with no additional fee.
- Fee for IVV credit only is $3.00 for this walk.
TRAIL HIGHLIGHTS: Round Pond is a clear mountaintop lake surrounded by a beach, playgrounds, picnic areas and campsites.
TRAIL RATING: 3. The trail is on a gravel and dirt emergency vehicle path thru wooded areas with flat to moderate terrain.
START POINT LOCATION & HOURS: Bonneville Cabin, Round Pond Recreational Area, Route 293, West Point, NY. Register between 10 AM and 3 PM. Finish by 6 PM.
PRE-REGISTRATION:There is no pre-registration for this event.
WATER & RESTROOMS: Water and bathrooms are available at the start point.
This event is cosponsorsed by MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation), who will be selling brats, hot dogs & hamburgers, soda & beer. BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (a Department of the Army program) will have pastries available for donations.
DIRECTIONS:
Round Pond Recreational Area is located off of Route 293 in West Point.
- From the NY State Thruway: Exit 16 (Harriman) to Route 32 South (0.5 miles) to Route 6 East (6 miles) to Route 293 (6 miles). Round Pond is on the left.
- From I-84: Exit 10 South to Route 9W South (12.5 miles to Route 293 (1 mile). Round Pond is on the right.
- From the Palisades Interstate Pkwy: Bear Mountain Exit (Traffic Circle). Take West Point Ramp, 9W North thru Ft. Montgomery to Route 293 (1 mile). Round Pond is on the right.

PARKING: There is parking available at the start/finish.
PETS: Dogs are welcome, except inside buildings, but must be on a leash of 6' or less. Cleanup after your dog is mandatory.
CONDITIONS: This event will be held regardless of weather conditions. With registration, each participant accepts the guidelines for AVA Volkssport events, and agrees to observe principles of good sportsmanship on the trail.
