TRAIL HIGHLIGHTS: The trail goes first through the town of Fort Montgomery on sidewalks. Then we visit the Fort Montgomery Battle Site. You may choose to go back to 9W to walk on the sidewalks, OR, to walk on natural surfaces and go under the Bear Mountain Bridge. If you choose the natural surfaces, hiking boots and walking sticks are necessary. Finally, the trail goes into Bear Mountain State Park, visiting the animals in the Trailside Zoo. It is on paved paths through the park. Using the paved route, it is suitale for strollers (single width), but not wheelchairs.

TRAIL RATING: 1+ if you take the paved route. 3+ if you take the natural trail. NOTE: If there is a orange or red terrorist alert, we will not be allowed on the natural trail, which goes under the Bear Mountain Bridge. Hiking boots and walking stick is needed for the nature trail.

START POINT LOCATION & HOURS: Holiday Inn Express, 1106 Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, NY. Start anytime between 10 AM - 1 PM, finish by 4 PM.

PRE-REGISTRATION:There is no pre-registration for this event.

WATER & RESTROOMS: There are restrooms and water at the start/finish. There are portable toilets at the Bear Mountain State Park Trailside Zoo, and restrooms near the Carousel.

Food: There are several restaurants/delis in Fort Montgomery. There is a snack bar at the Carousel.

DIRECTIONS:

• From the North: New York State Thruway to Exit 17, Newburgh. I-84 East to Exit 10S, 9W South. Holiday Inn Express is on the left hand side in Fort Montgomery.
• From the South: Palisades Interstate Parkway to Route 6(East) and North to Bear Mountain Traffic Circle. Take 9W North. Holiday Inn Express is on the right hand side in Fort Montgomery.
• From the East or West: I-84 to Exit 10S. 9W South. Holiday Inn Express is on the left hand side in Fort Montgomery.
