SPECIAL CONDITIONS:  Saturday parade: The Annual Scottish Christmas parade event, including the parading of the clans, marching bands, dog groups, and Santa Claus begins at 10am. Start the walk early to get a good location for viewing the parade and taking pictures. The city of Alexandria will be decorated for the holiday season and its many stores will be selling gifts of the season.

DIRECTIONS:  From the East or West via I 95 / I 495 (Capital Beltway): Take Exit 177B (US-1 North/Alexandria). Continue north on US-1 for about 10 blocks (0.8 miles) to Queen St. (2 blocks past King St.). Turn RIGHT on Queen St. for 2 1/2 blocks. The Library will be on your left.

From the North via the George Washington Memorial Parkway: Take the GW Parkway into Old Town Alexandria. Continue on what now is called Washington St. for about 8 blocks from the first traffic signal at Slater's Lane to Princess St. Turn RIGHT on Princess St. You will be one block north of the library, which is on the far side of a large parking lot to your left.

PARKING:  Parking will be scarce in the immediate area nearby. Parking will be especially difficult to find during the mid- to late morning on Saturday, so plan to arrive early if you can. Park in street spaces in the northern and western parts of Old Town. Obey all parking signs, and do not park in private lots unless they are paid lots. Keep track of how many blocks you walk from your car to the Start/Finish Point. We will give extra IVV distance credit for those who must walk more than 5 blocks.

METRORAIL ACCESS:  Take either Blue or Yellow lines south into Alexandria to the King Street station. Exit the station and walk away from the tracks toward Old Town Alexandria. Walk east on King Street for about 12 blocks to Columbus Street, which is two blocks past Patrick Street and one block before Washington Street. Turn LEFT to walk two blocks to Queen Street. The library is on the far right corner. Extra IVV distance credit will be given to those who walk both ways between the Metro Station and S/F Point.

A NOTE ABOUT THE LOCATION OF THE START/FINISH POINT:  Through the courtesy of the Kate Waller Barrett Branch Library, a branch of the Alexandria city library system, we are able to use a small staff lounge to host this weekend event. We ask all volksmarchers to be patient as we work to conduct the same kind of high-quality event we have hosted in the past.
