TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
Hyannis, settled in 1666 and the largest of Barnstable’s seven counties, is well suited for walkers with its beautiful homes, both old and new; ocean views from different elevations; and sandy beaches. The walk route traverses Main Street passing the JFK Museum (admission fee), which focuses on the “The Cape Years” of President Kennedy; restaurants featuring outdoor seasonal dining: and a variety of retail shops. The route continues passing the Cape Cod Melody tent (a seasonal theater), and the “Kennedy Family Compound”, the summer homes of the Kennedy Family. Leaving the neighborhoods of both Hyannis and Hyannisport, the route enters Veterans’ Park, home of the JFK and Korean War Memorials, and overlooks Hyannis Harbor.
