TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
Our walk in Durham will take walkers through the campus of the University of New Hampshire, downtown Durham, College Woods and along Mill Pond where Durham’s famous swans reside.
Though the route is relatively flat there are a few hills and a wooded area. The route is rated an AVA 1+. An alternate trail will be available for walkers who do not wish to walk College Woods. Pets allowed but must be leashed. Cleanup laws apply.
Durham is home to the University of New Hampshire after Benjamin Thompson donated land to New Hampshire for a land grant college. So in 1893 New Hampshire College moved from Hanover, NH to Durham. In this walk you will see some of the old buildings built over the past 100 years along with Ben Thompson’s grave. Every April 23 there is a celebration of Ben Thompson’s birthday.
