Message from Glen to All Walkers

Hi!  I’m Glen Conyers and Regional Director for the Great South Central Region of the American Volkssport Association with seventeen walking clubs in the states of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. I invite you to find more detailed information regarding our clubs using the links to the AVA website.

Our clubs promote well being and good health through walking exercise. Our walking is non-competitive and allows you to do the walks at what ever speed works for you. Many of our clubs do however offer “club walks” when they walk together for fellowship and fun in addition to fitness. Our walks are established 6.2 mile or 10km, with some 3.1 or 5km as well.

One of the great things about the "volkssport” way of walking are the great people you meet and the friendships that you forge. We are all interested in walking, and doing it with good people makes it a very enjoyable way to remain physically fit. How many times have you gone to the gym to walk on the walking track “around and around” with each step becoming more boring than the last? Well, we can assure you that you will not get bored doing AVA walks and you have fun while you do it.

We also offer a way to keep a lifetime record of your walking activity and your achievement. We are rewarded for this by receiving patches and pins which many of us display on coats and hats. Just another fun way to show the places we walk and how much we have walked.

The Great South Central Region offers over eighty walks in our five states so you can share in the fun of volkssporting. Over 50,000 Americans participate in American Volkssport activities with over 320 clubs nationwide. So, why not come along and join some of your neighbors in a fun sport that will help keep you young!

Message from Glen to South Central Clubs

A lot of our clubs have business cards which introduce walkers not aware of AVA to their individual walking club which tells briefly about the club and when and where to come to their meetings. Also the name of someone to contact about further information. Just the size of a regular business card which is very convenient to keep in your purse or wallet to have handy when the need arises.

When your club does a club walk and you run onto other walkers out there, not members, give them one of these cards. It is a great way for you to market your club.

If your club does not have a card to introduce your club to non-AVA club walkers,  I urge you get some and distribute them widely in your club so everyone in your club gets in the habit of distributing information about your club to the public

You may give the same person more than one card over a given period of time, but just keep introducing your club to them.

Becky Forsythe, former Northwestern Regional Director and our AVA Marketing Chair says it takes “eleven times” to finally get through to a non-AVA walker with our message!  Eleven times, so until you have tried eleven times, just keep banging away.

Our message is good, good for them, and hopefully after eleven times they will get the message, unless you get tired of doing it.  Don’t give up.  Use your club cards if you have them, and if you don’t have them, get some.   If you already have one, email or mail it to me and I will include it in this article.  Be fun to see what others are doing. They are a good marketing tool to sell your club.  Remember, Focus on Growth!
