National Executive Council Meeting

March 1, 2008 Washington, DC

All National Officers, Regional Directors & the AVA Executive Director in attendance.

 

The minutes from the December 1, 2007 NEC Meeting were approved as submitted.

 

AVA Club count as of this date – 315

4 new clubs activated & 2 clubs deactivated since the last meeting.

 

The President’s report was presented by Curt Myron. The emphasis was on the recent IVV-EU meeting in Luxembourg. The minutes from that meeting were distributed last month. The IVV has a new website: www.ivv-web.org

 Following that meeting he met with TAFISTA (Trim & Fitness International Sport for all Association) headquartered in Frankfurt Germany. A summary of this organizations objective is attached.

 

2009 AVA Convention in Richardson, Texas update. The Convention Committee Chair resigned to deal with a family health emergency. AVA Vice President, John Ferguson, & Southwest RD, Heinz Johnson have stepped in to fill the void. The committee is focused on developing new workshops to assist in club leadership topics including electronic sanctioning. The pre convention & post convention weekend walks in adjacent states are being coordinated by the South Central RD. Locations & details at a future point.

 

2011 AVA Convention in Des Moines, Iowa. Convention Chair Susan Pinneke briefed us on the tentative walks covering the entire state, west to east. They are also talking with potential co-sponsors.

 

2013 AVA Convention submissions for consideration need to be ready by this time next year at the NEC Meeting tentatively scheduled for February 2009.

 

The Publicity Committee chaired by John Ferguson reports that the AARP website has a link to AVA at their “Step up to better health program”. You will need to sign in on the site to have full access.

AVA plans to have a booth at this years AARP Convention in Washington DC.

 

Special Events Program chair Phil Hait presented a new event for approval beginning July 4, 2009 to run for three (3) years. The “Liberty Bell” Special Event was approved. There is a replica Liberty Bell in every US State & US Territory. A web site lists the current location for each bell.

 

The AVA Advisory Commission submitted a “draft” report to the NEC for review & discussion at a future meeting. The 30 page report outlines many questions and concerns that came up about the current IVV situation.

 

New Business: There were quite a few motions before the NEC. The details were sent out in a recent Check Point. A summary of the actions is outlined.
