These trails qualify for Cemetery Stroll, Authors and Literary Landmarks

and Railroad Heritage Special Walking Program events.

 

Location:  New Holland PA is located in South Central Pennsylvania east of Lancaster toward Chester County on Route 23.

 

Trails:  7am - dusk. Trails are both rated 1+ and are suited for strollers and wheelchairs. Both walks are on sidewalks and paved walking trails. New Holland is a small rural community surrounded by many Amish and Plain Sect farms. It can trace it's roots to 1728 with the the first two churches being established in 1730 and 1732. YRE1368 circles the eastern end of town going thru the grounds of "Garden Spot High School", new and old residential neighborhoods, then wandering around walking paths on the facilities of the retirement community known as "Garden Spot Village". YRE1372 travels thru various business and residential areas to the western part of town where Case-New Holland has a large manufacturing plant. A walking trail thru these facilities will show many of the NEW HOLLAND farm machinery products.

 

Registration Point:  Country Squire Motor Inn, 504 East Main St. (Rt23), New Holland. 717-354-4166 (call for reservations only).

 

Starting Dates and Times:  The Inn is open daily 24 hours a day. It is strongly recommended though that you walk only during daylight hours.

 

Award and Fees:  This is a CREDIT ONLY event. IVV Credit only is $3.00. You may participate in this event for free although donations are appreciated.

 

Procedures:  There is no pre-registration. Register on the day that you wish to walk at the registration point. Ask for the Volksmarch (Walk) box at the front desk. Start cards, maps, and written directions are in the box. The start card must be mailed to receive credit for the walk. IVV event and Distance Books may be purchased.

Directions

 

From Lancaster:  Take Pa. Rt 23 east from Lancaster about 12 miles to New Holland. The Country Squire is at the far east end of town as indicated on the map below.

 

From Northeast:  Take US Route 322 East to Blue Ball. Turn right onto PA 23. The Country Squire Motor Inn is on the east side of town.

 

From the East or Turnpike:  Take PA Route 23 west from Morgantown Exit of the PA Turnpike to New Holland. The Country Squire Motor Inn in on the east end of town.
