Menehune Marchers has AVA sanctioned Year Round Events on two islands, the Big Island of Hawaii and Oahu. Walks are near cruise line embarcation points and the starting points are a short distace away.
Kailua- Kona--
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE: Remote registration by mail or email required.
There is no start box on site.
The start point, at the Kona Seaside Resort, is a short walk along Palani Road from the dock where
cruise passengers come ashore.
HONOLULU -- The Aloha Tower cruise line terminus is on the
Downtown/Capital walk
and a few blocks from the
Ala Moana Beach Park
and Obama Heritage walks.
For long distance walkers, the Ala Moana Beach Park walk can connect with the
Waikiki walks, (Diamond Head,
Waikiki Beach,
and Kahala)
providing a walking tour of OAHU's prime beachfront, hotel and shopping districts,
and taking you from the harbor to Diamond Head.
To get to the Downtown/Capitol walk starting point, proceed inland, across Nimitz Highway, away from the harbor and toward the mountains on either Bishop Street or Fort Street. You will pass several buildings from the Territory era and one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals in the U.S. Cross Queen, Merchant, King, Hotel, Beretania and Kukui Streets. Bishop and Fort Streets join at Kukui. Continue straight ahead to cross the intersection of Vineyard Blvd and Pali highway. The starting point at the Nuuanu YMCA is at this intersection on the right. If you take a taxi to the starting point, don't be surprised that the route will be quite different. Traffic is restricted on Bishop and Fort Streets.
If you need assistance finding any of the starting points, please call one of the walk POCs.
