Event Description: This is a city walk that takes you through an older neighborhood of Honolulu and the University of Hawaii Manoa campus. It includes significant places in the early life of President Obama. These places include the hospital where he was born, some of the houses and apartments where he lived with his mother, sister, and grandparents, a place where he worked as a student, and the high school he attended and graduated from, before leaving Hawaii for college.

Event Description: This walk takes you into Diamond Head Crater, where there is a small fee. The walk includes a 0.7 mile trail to the summit of Diamond Head for a breath taking panoramic view. For this view you must climb a 99 step staircase, walk thru a long tunnel and up a spiral staircase inside a bunker to the lookout. It's worth every step.

Event Description: Two options are available. The 10K Historic Waikiki option goes by surfboard-shaped bronze markers, statues and historic buildings/hotels. Learn more about Hawaii's cultural heritage and the history of Waikiki by reading the inscriptions on the markers. You will be walking on sidewalks and the sandy beaches of Waikiki. The 10K Waikiki option is on sidewalks that go by Kapiolani Park, the Ala Wai Canal and Kalakaua Avenue. It also includes the boardwalk along the Hilton Hotel lagoon where you will enjoy the breathtaking views of Diamond Head and Waikiki.

Event Description: This walk is on the windward side of Oahu. The walk starts at Castle Medical Center, goes through residential neighborhoods, beside Ulu Po Heiau and Kawainui Marsh Regional Park, through Kailua Town to Kailua Beach, with the world title of Best Beach, and up to the scenic lookout at Aala Point, where you might see some turtles swimming.

From Waikiki: Take Likelike Hwy (63N). Turn left at Kamehameha Hwy (83W). Turn left at Naniloa Loop.
Alternative route from Waikiki via North Shore: Take H1 west to H2 north (Wahiawa/Mililani).
Take exit 8 toward Wahiawa. Continue on Kamehameha Hwy to Laie. Turn right at Naniloa Loop.

Along the route, you will see many wonderful sights: a spectacular ocean view lookout,
the famous Hukilau Beach, the architecturally
renowned Morman Temple, and the Brigham Young University (BYU)-Hawaii Campus.
Stop at the gazebo at BYU where you will enjoy a breathtaking 360 degree view.
An alternate route is also available without the beach walk and stairs.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is located in Laie so plan on spending your day/evening in Laie.
Recommend an early start as Laie is often hot at midday. Bring water, sunscreen, and hat.
DRESS CODE:
Shorts must be at least knee length if you plan on walking the grounds of Brigham Young.

Volcano Art Center, in Volcanoes National Park. On the Big Island.
CAUTION! CHECK WITH PARK RANGERS BEFORE STARTING THIS WALK. THERE HAS BEEN VOLCANIC ACTIVITY IN
THE CRATER, PARTS OF THE ROUTE MAY BE CLOSED, AND THE VOLCANIC FUMES MAY BE STRONG.
Due to the presence of volcanic fumes, people with breathing conditions should not do this walk.
Directions: From Hilo, take Hawaii Belt Road (HI-11 SW) and follow the signs to Volcanoes National Park (about 30 miles/ 45 minutes). From Kailua-Kona, take Hawaii Belt Road (H-11 SE) and follow the signs to the Volcanoes National Park (about 95 miles/2 1/2 hours). The Volcano Art Center is located next door to the Kilauea Visitors Center, (there is a very informative movie and lots of information about the volcano at the Visitor Center).
Event Description: The trail passes through two craters, a lava field, a lava tube and a beautiful rainforest. Part of the trail is rocky with some steep up and down hill climbs. The park is at 4,000 foot elevation. Due to volcanic fumes, people with breathing conditions should be careful. There is a entrance fee of $10 per car into the Volcanoes National Park; the fee is good for 10 days.
Start Times: The Art Center is open from 9am to 5pm, closed Christmas.
