General Information: Warren is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains of North Western Pennsylvania. The area is noted for its vast timber supply, farming, oil boom, and refineries. Also the Allegheny River and its tributaries served as natural waterways for rafting timber and transportation.

Trail: The 10K route rated 1+ will begin at the YMCA and will take you through Crescent Park, along the river, residential areas, shops, and historical district. The sidewalks are uneven and river path will be difficult for strollers and wheelchairs.

Start Point: The walk will start at the YMCA at 212 Lexington Avenue, Warren, PA. 814-726-0110 Registration - Monday through Friday from 5:30 AM until 9:00 PM; Saturday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Closed Sundays and Holidays. Walk during daylight hours only; must be finished by dusk

Procedures: Pick up a start card, map, and directions at the YMCA. Please carry a pencil to record checkpoints. Upon completion of walk, return the start card to the finish point for IVV credit and/or award. Note: All free walkers are requested to return their cards to the Finish Area.

Award and fees: This is a "Credit Only" event. IW credit is $2. Checks are preferred. Those not wishing credit may walk for free.

Directions:
From the East - Take Route 6 to Warren turn right on Mohawk Avenue ( there is a light). Stay on Mohawk Avenue which becomes Crescent Park and at light turn right, crossing the bridge. At light, turn right on Pennsylvania Avenue. Stay on Pennsylvania Avenue crossing another bridge, pass Oak Street and turn right on Eln Street to Lexington Street. Turn left and the YMCA will be on your right.
From the West - Take Route 6 to Warren, turn left at Mohawk Avenue ( there is a light). Stay on Mohawk Avenue which becomes Crescent Park and at light turn right, crossing the bridge. At light, turn right on Pennsylvania Avenue. Stay on Pennsylvania Avenue crossing another bridge, pass Oak Street and turn right on Elm Street to Lexington Street. Turn left and the YMCA will be on your right.

General Information: Bradford is located in McKean County, in the Allegheny Plateau of North Western Pennsylvania, close to the New York border. It became popular during the early 1800's due to its forests which made lumber it's main industry. Inthe later 1800's, oil was Bradford's chief industry.

Trail: The 10K route rated 1+ will begin at the Zippo/Case Visitors Center and will take you by a famous oil well on Main Street, through residential areas, shops, and the University of Pittsburgh Campus. The sidewalks are uneven and will be difficult for strollers and wheelchairs.

Start Point: The walk will start at the Zippo/Case Visitors Center at 1932 Zippo Drive, Bradford, PA. Registration, Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 5:00, Sunday from 12:00 through 4:00 from June 1 to September 30. Closed Sundays from April 1 until June 1. Closed Holidays. Walk during daylight hours only; must be finished by dusk

From New York - Take Route 219 South Business Bypass to Owens Way. Turn right on Owens Way at stop sign, turn right. At'Y" turn right on Congress St to the Zippo/Case Visitors Center which will be on your right. There are Zippo/Case Visitors Center signs. You will be entering the back entrance of the Center.
From the south - Take Route 219 North to Bradford. At the stop sign go straight - do not take the 219 bypass. At the 'Y" turn right onto Congress St. And the Zippo/Case Visitors Center will be on your right. There are Zippo/Case Visitors Center signs. You will be enterin~ the back entrance of the Center.

"B" Medal Event

General Information: The Nittany Nomads welcome you to enjoy two historical Volksmarchs in St. Marys, PA located in Ellr County. It was named Elk County because of the Elk herds. (They still roam here today.) St. Marys was founded by German immigrants in 1842. It is situated near the Allegheny National Forest. The St. Marys Home Town Festival is held annually during September with lots of activities for the entire weekend (specific dates are unknown at this time). Trail: The more difficult route is mostly along sidewalks and will take you by historical buildings, landmarks, and through a cemetery in St. Marys. There are four hills and the walk will not be suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Thetrailisrateda3. Theeasierrouteis mostly on uneven sidewalks and will take you by historical buildings and churches, residential and shopping areas. The trail is rated 1+.

Start Point: The walk will start at the Towne House Inn at 138 Center Street, St. Marys, PA. Registration daily, dawn to three hours before dusk. Walk during daylight hours only; you must be finished by dusk.

Procedures: Pick up a start card, and directions at the Town House Inn, and record checkpoints along the route, traveling at your own pace. At the finish, turn in your validated card and those who paid fees will receive their award and IW credit. Note: All free walkers are requested to return their cards to the Finish Area. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash at all times.

Award and fees: This is a "B" event. Awards from previous events will be available for $3 (credit + "B" award). IW credit is S2. Checks are preferred. No refunds.

Refreshments: Water and restrooms will be available at the start/finish. Refreshments will be abailable at stores and restaurants on one section of the trail.

Directions:From New York: From NY Route 17, exit on 219 South to Johnsonburg. Take 255 South to second light; turn right continuing on 255, then after a short distance turn right just after red block building into the back entrance to the Town House Inn. Or continue to the next street, Center Street, and turn right to Towne House Inn.
From the East: From I-80 East, take Exit 18, Route 153 to Penfield. At Penfield turn right on 255 North to downtown St. Marys. After the light by the movie theater, turn left before the red block building into the back entrance of the Towne House Inn.
From the West: From I-80 West, take Exit 17, Route 255 North to downtown St. Marys. After the light by the movie theater, turn left before the red block building into the back entrance of the Towne House Inn.
Note: Towne House Inn will give a 10% discount to all volkssporters who lodge or dine at the Inn.

"B" Medal Event

General Information: Penn State Trail: Nestled in the shadow of legendary Mount Nittany lies the town of State College. It grew up around the campus of The Pennsylvania State University, and is the attractive hometown of some 41,000 residents, and a "second home" to 40,000 Penn State students. The Penn State Trail passes by a variety of museums, the famous Creamery (oh, those Ice cream cones!) and Nittany Lion shrine. Please note the Creamery is closed on major holidays and Christmas-thru-New Year's semester break. This 10KM walk is entirely on paved walkways with gently rolling hills. It is suitable for strollers. The route leads through neighborhoods, the downtown area of State College, and the Penn State University campus. Rated 2.

Boalsburg Trail: Boalsburg is known as the birthplace of Memorial Day. Graves in Boalsburg were decorated as early as 1864, and today villagers celebrate their place in history by hosting a commemorative festival each Memorial Day. The village boasts three museums: Boalsburg Heritage Museum; Pennsylvania Military Museum & 28th Division Shrine; and Boal Mansion and Christopher Columbus Chapel. (All have entrance fees.) Most of this 10Km walk will be on paved bike paths or sidewalks, with some roadside walking. It is suitable for strollers. The route leads through neighborhoods and past shops and museums. Note: During the winter months the bike path may be snow covered. Walkers are advised to call ahead to check on trail conditions. Rated 1+.

Start Point: The Best Western State College Inn, S. Atherton St. & Branch Rd., State College, PA 16801.

Start Time: After sunrise. Finish Time: Before dusk.

Procedures: At the start point, ask the registration person for the Volksmarch Box. Read the directions included in the box for registration. Pick up a start card, map, directions, and carry a pencil to record checkpoints.

Award: This is a "B" event. Awards from previous events are available for $3 (credit and award). IVV credit only is $2. Checks are preferred.

Special note: Traffic in and around the area will be heavy for these events; it will be difficult to get accommodations at area motels.

Directions: From I-80: Take Exit 24, Route 26 South to Business Rt. 322, two miles east, on left *

From Pittsburgh: Rt. 22 East to Rt. 220 North to Rt. 322 East on Business Rt. 322.*

From Harrisburg: Rt. 322 West to Business Rt. 322. Turn right at the 6th light.*

*Entrance to the Best Western State College Inn, 1663 S. Atherton Street, State College is to the left. There is plenty of parking behind Best Western.

"B" Medal Event

General Information: The earliest recorded history of the Bellefonte area goes back to 1745, when the first white man purchased land from the Indians that lived in the area. The first residence, which is now known as Thomas House, was built by William Lamb in 1785. In 1795 James Harris, deputy surveyor of the state, and James Dunlop, his father-in-law, laid out the original plan of Bellefonte, then known as "Big Spring".

In the early 1800s many buildings and homes were erected in Bellefonte. The town was growing rapidly, with the economy centered around the iron works. During the mid and late 1800s, Bellefonte was the industrial, political, and cultural hub of the state. In the early 1900s the rapid growth reached its peak. Today, while not the hub of activity it was during the Victorian Era, Bellefonte continues to be a very interesting and enjoyable place to visit.

There are many beautiful historical buildings in Bellefonte that illustrate the architecture of the. Victorian Era. The Nittany Nomads have planned a walking tour which will pass most of these historic sites. For more information about the history of the town, contact the Bellefonte Chamber of Commerce.

Trail: The majority of this 10K walk is on sidewalks, with some roadside walking. There are two steep hills. Not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Start Point: Boscaino's Variety Store, 325 W. High St., Bellefonte. Please remember, this is a business and customers come first. Store is open 5:30 AM-8:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 5:30 AM-1:00 PM Sunday. Closed Christmas. Holiday hours 8:00 AM-1:00 PM. Walk during daylight hours only.

Procedures: Pick up a start card, map. and directions at Boscaino's Variety Store. Please carry a pencil to record checkpoints. Upon completion of walk, return the start card to the finish point for IVV credit and/or award. Note: All free walkers are requested to return their cards to the Finish Area.

Directions: From North, East, or West via Interstate 80, take Exit 23. Follow Route 150 South through Milesburg to Bellefonte. At the first traffic light (about 4 miles), turn right onto High St. Boscaino's Variety Store is on the right, immediately after Talleyrand Park. From Altoona: take 220 North, and then 150 South. Follow the directions above to Bellefonte. From South: Take Route 322. Before Boalsburg, take Route 322 bypass (Philipsburg exit). Then take Route 26 North to Bellefonte. After three traffic lights (about 1.5 miles), the road splits. Bear to the left onto Route 150 North. Bellefonte is approximately 6.5 miles from this point. At the 4th traffic light (counting the light directly after road splits), turn left onto High Street. Boscaino's Variety Store is on the right. immediately after Talleyrand Park, which is on left.

Parking will be available in the municiple lot adjacent to CVS Pharmacy and along both sides of High Street.
