Keystone State Volkssport Association

MORE ABOUT EVENTS
Volkssport events are carefully planned to provide the maximum enjoyment with a minimum of hazard.
Each participant must carry a start card which is stamped at checkpoints along the route and is turned in at the finish. This way the sponsoring club knows if there are any participants still out on the trail.
Water, hard candies, and first aid are available at the checkpoints.
Routes are carefully planned in advance and measured so that they are accurate in length. Ratings are given (1-easy . . . 5-most difficult) so that participants know in advance whether they will need hiking boots or walking sticks or whether the trail is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
Trails are clearly marked with tape and/or directional signs and sometimes participants are given maps to follow. Often additional material concerning points of interest along the trail will be available.
Many times food and drinks are available at the start/finish.
Additionally, many clubs also have "year-round" events (YREs). As the name suggests, these are trails that can be walked year round. Usually the start point is at a hotel, public building or business where the participant registers and then follows a map of the trail. Many volksmarchers try to include year round events in their vacation or travel plans.
Information on upcoming events is available from local clubs or can be obtained at events.
