Walking Tour

11 Km Walk (2009 -Y0668)

Start Location: Suffolk Visitors Center, 321 North Main Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434 (757) 923-3880

Start / Finish Times: The Visitors Center is open every day from 9AM till 5PM. Closed New Years, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Special Classifications: Authors and Literary Landmarks, Cemetery Stroll, Courthouse in the USA, Museums, Native American Culture, Riverwalk America, Railroad Heritage, Walk the USA, A-Z.

Fees: There is no fee to walk the trail. This is a credit only event. The fee for IVV credit will be $3.                               B Awards may be available.

Facilities: There are restrooms and water available at the start/finish point. Food, drinks, and restrooms are available at various establishments along the route. Restrooms are also available at approximately the half-way point of the walk at a Hardees Restaurant.

Course Description: The trail is rated 1+. The route is mostly level, but there is one short steep grade. The trail follows city streets, but some do not have sidewalks. The trail is not suitable for handicap access. Strollers and leashed pets should be OK.

Highlights: View an eclectic mixture of architectural styles in historic and modern neighborhoods. Walk along the Nansemond River at Constant’s Wharf.  Be sure to visit the diorama exhibits at the Seaboard Railroad Station Museum across from the Visitors Center. 

Directions: The Suffolk Visitors Center is located on US 13, ½ mile south of the intersection with US 58 and 460 Business Route. Take I-64, I-664, or I-264 to toward Suffolk. At Bowers Hill, exit to US 58 West. Go 6 miles on US 58, then exit to US 58 Business Route. Go 3 miles to North Main Street. Turn left on US 13 South. The Visitor Center is on the right after ½ mile, just after the railroad crossing.
