EVENTS
Regular (Staffed) Events are those held on a particular day, usually on weekends, and are hosted by clubs. Clubs make the arrangements for facilities, permits, porta-potties, water and whatever else is necessary to make an event a success. The club marks the walk route with colored arrows and/or ribbons. The club usually provides a map or written directions. Walkers may start anytime within the time window and must finish by a specified time, but walk at their own pace. Checkpoints along the route provide safety and water. Walks are of varying difficulty, and are rated 1-5 to let you know what to expect. Click Here for the trail rating system, which is the same for all volkssport events.

Everyone is welcome. All walkers must register, sign and return a start card.

Achievement Awards Program: You may walk for free. However, many walkers participate in the credit program of the International organization. It's a great way to keep track of walks and reward yourself for keeping active. If you walk for credit, you pay $3 for event and/or distance credit and get the event sanction stamp in your record book. Record books are available at all scheduled events. New Walker packets are available and someone at the event can help get you started on the credit walking program. Sometimes walks have awards for finishing or hatpins that you purchase. Year-Round (or Seasonal) events (YRE’s) are walks you can do yourself most any day of the year or part of the year. Exceptions are noted. Register yourself and find directions at a local business or facility, which has agreed to be the registration location. Sometimes these materials are in a file cabinet within the establishment, or in a file box that might be kept behind a counter. Many walkers enjoy doing YRE's when they travel to other parts of the country -- a great way to see the area. They are also an excellent way to get your exercise between regular events. Click here for the American Volkssport Association's web page to find other year-round or regular events.
