TRAIL DESCRIPTION

There will be a choice of 10Ks, one trail going to the summit of Bear Butte (5) which will be a 1,000 ft. rise in elevation offering a panoramic view of 4 states. It is 1.85 miles to Bear Butte Peak on a trail of packed soil, solid and loose rock, with steps and switchbacks. Pets are not allowed on this portion of the walk.
After returning to the visitor center, walkers will go to Bear Butte Lake. The other 10K option will also start at the Visitors Center and walk around Bear Butte Lake (2.5 miles) and back to the start. The 5 KM goes down to Bear Butte Lake where the Centennial Trail begins. There are some moderate hills on the return trip to the visitor center.
