TRAIL DESCRIPTION

Walk will go up and down hills of historic Lead residential and business district. Downtown is lined with structures dating back to the gold rush days.

EVENT INFORMATION

The Mile High City is where you can visit historic Homestake Opera House, take Homestake Mine Tours and visit the open cut. One of the first enterprises of the Gold Rush of 1876 was the Homestake Gold Mine which closed in 2002.  10% room discount at Golden Hills Resort for volkssporters, per Grant Mason.

DIRECTIONS

From Rapid City, take I-90 to Sturgis, then Boulder Canyon Hwy 85 to Deadwood. Go south out of Deadwood on Hwy 85 for 5 miles to Lead, through downtown, up to Miners Ave. There is a stop light at this intersection. At the intersection, the hotel will be on your right. Other routes include Hwy 44, west out of Rapid City to Hwy 385, then north on Hwy 385 for 24 miles to the intersection of Hwy 85. Turn left at this point and drive to Lead following Hwy 85 through downtown Lead to Miners Ave. Hotel is on your right.
