Minutes of the Volkssport Club of West Point
March 25, 2006
The Volkssport Club of West
Point met
for a pre-walk breakfast at the Eveready Diner in Hyde Park on Saturday, 25 March 2006. Two club
members were present. Andrew
Schmidt, Treasurer, presided in lieu of club President and Vice President both
being out of town for the day.
Treasurer, Andrew Schmidt, presented his report with
these highlights:
- Balance in club account at end of February was $1,652.57.
- For the past rolling 12 months, our income was $3,282.60 with expenses
of $3,217.61 for a positive cash flow of $64.99.
- In 2006 so far, the club has received over 20 renewals or new memberships.
Old Business:
- On 11 June 2006, we are doing a joint group walk of one of the
NYC walks along with the Princeton Area Walkers (PAWS) We voted to do the Lower
Manhattan YRE (http://www.ava.org/gen3/data/event_details.asp?eventid=72555). It was noted that the New Balance Shoe
Store on East
42nd Street near Grand Central Terminal (the Starting Point), does not open
until 11
AM on Sundays. Details on the logistics of this walk will
be sent out to the membership shortly, but mark "Lower Manhattan" on your calendar for the 11 June
2006 Group walk.
- Membership currently stands at 69 individuals.
- Discussions on club tee-shirts was delayed until Secretary Nancy Patrick
attends the next club meeting as she has those details.
- Andrew reported that Vassar College can not allow us to use their campus on the Hudson Valley Ramble
the weekend of 16-17 September due to conflicts on their schedule. Andrew and club member Tom Scuccimarra are looking at using a new Cold Spring
walk that Tom has prepared a route for (thanks Tom!!) on Sunday, 17
September, as our club's entry to the Ramble. Tom will be checking on
parking and permit logistics shortly.
New Business:
- Andrew mentioned that at the next monthly club meeting to be held
on 20 April he will ask the club membership to vote on three amendments to
the constitution:
1.
Allowing the
Club to maintain more than one bank account so that we can deposit some of our
monies in interest-bearing Certificate of Deposits.
2.
Changing the
club's fiscal year currently as a calendar year to 1 July to 30 June to conform
to the AVA fiscal year as we use their 501(c)(3)
umbrella IRS exemption.
3.
Changing the
club's membership year from a calendar year to a floating 12 month renewal
year.
- It was suggested by some of our visiting Albany ESCV club friends participating
in the Rhinebeck Group YRE that followed the meeting that on our club
brochure we list the AVA programs that each of our walks participates in (eg: Presidents, College, American Revolution, etc.) . Andrew will
look into making these changes.
The meeting adjourned for registration for the
Rhinebeck YRE Group Walk which was attended by at least 16 credit + free
walkers.
