WELCOME

This event is a non-competitive walk sponsored by the Volkssport Club of West Point. It is open to everyone and is free if you do not want IVV credit. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

START/FINISH LOCATION

Beacon Newburgh Ferry Dock at the Beacon Metro North Train Station
The Dock is on the Hudson River at Red Flynn Drive off of Beekman St. off of Route 9D.

START/FINISH TIMES

Register between 9:00 AM and 12 Noon. Finish by 3 PM.

PROCEDURE

Each participant must receive an event card and sign a waiver at the start. The event card must be turned in at the finish, regardless of whether or not you complete the walk.

PARKING

There is parking available at or near the Start/Finish Point.

PREREGISTRATION

There is no preregistration for this event.

FEES AND AWARDS

IVV credit only is $3. The walk is free for those who wish to participate without receiving IVV credit. There is no “A” award for this walk.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION

A 5 or 10 kilometer self-guided walk (trail instructions provided) through the historic city of Beacon, NY. The entire trail is located on city streets and sidewalks. Scenic views of the Hudson River. You’ll walk by many historic buildings, antique shops, restaurants and specialty stores, and Beacon’s Riverfront on the Hudson. Suitable for strollers; not for wheelchairs, primarily due some larger hills.

TRAIL RATING

2+ (for a few steeper hills).

FACILITIES

Water at the Starting Point will be available. A "porta-potty" is available approximately one-tenth of a mile from the start point.

SANCTION & IVV CREDIT

This event has been sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) and the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). Fee paying participants will be eligible to earn IVV credit for distance and event.

CONDITIONS

This event will be held regardless of weather conditions. There will be no refunds.

PETS

Dogs are allowed on a leash of not more that 10 feet. Pets are not permitted in buildings.

DIRECTIONS TO START POINT

The Beacon Newburgh Ferry Dock, at the Beacon Metro North Train Station, is on the Hudson River at Red Flynn Drive, off of Beekman St., off of Route 9D.

Exit 11 of I-84. Take Route 9D South. Follow signs for Metro North Train Station. The Ferry dock is on the Hudson River side of the train station.

There will be a Farmer's Market from 10 AM to 4 PM.
