Kwik Stop Convenience Store, 217 E. 1st Street, Ogallala, NE
69153; (308) 284-6138 [located in Mountain
Time] HOURS: Register Daily, dawn to dusk. Walk only during daylight hours. DISTANCES / TRAILS: 5 / 10 km The trail is through the town of Ogallala and on a hiker/biker trail. The trail is mostly flat with a couple of hills. Featured sites are Front Street [replica of old western town]; schools and residential areas; overlook of town; Mansion on the Hill [on Historical Register]; Wild West Soap Box Derby Track; Boot Hill; Spruce Street Station [on Historical Register]; US Post Office [on Historical Register]; Lincoln Highway; terminus of Western Trail. The trail will be mostly on a paved trail and sidewalks and is rated 2 because it is generally flat with moderate hills. The trail is suitable for wheel chairs and strollers. Water and restrooms will be available at the Start/Finish Point. AWARD & FEES: All participants must register at the start point and carry a start card. Participation is free. You may register to walk for an award and IVV credit for $5.00. After receiving completed start card and appropriate fees, award will be mailed. For those who wish IVV credit only, the fee is $3.00. Fees will not be refunded for those who do not participate. DIRECTIONS: From I - 80 in Nebraska: Take Exit 126 for NE-61/US-26 toward Ogallala/Grant. Turn right at the top of the exit ramp toward Ogallala for approximately 0.7 miles. Upon reaching the traffic light at US 30, continue straight ahead travelling in the left lane. (The Kwik Stop is at your right front at this intersection. ) At the next corner, turn left onto E 2nd Street. After making the turn, half way down the block, on the left, turn left into a public parking lot. Park in this lot. On street parking is also available. Do not park at the Kwik Stop. SPECIAL PROGRAMS: 10 km only: Firehouses; Historic Churches; Honoring Law Enforcement; Museums; Veteran Memorials. 5 km only: Murals; WPA Works Projects Administration PARKING: Do not park at the Kwik Stop. There is limited parking and should be reserved for their customers. FACILITIES, AMENITIES & STIPULATIONS: Registration Box is at the check out counter. Restrooms and water will be available at the start point. Restrooms are available along the trail. Everyone is welcome. Participants may walk, jog, or run. An adult must accompany children under 12. Pets are allowed on the trails but not in buildings. Please observe leash and pet clean-up laws. This event will be held regardless of most weather conditions.
