What are Volkssports?

Volkssports are family-oriented, amateur athletic events.  They are casual, though well organized, adventures in health, recreation, fellowship and fun.  Volkssports evolved from races in Germany, and have spread to 28 other countries and throughout the United States.  Participants come from the general public and EVERYONE is welcome.  Pets are allowed at most outdoor events.

Although volkssports include walks, bike, swim and cross-country ski events, most Volkssport events are VOLKSWALKS.  Walk events are usually 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).  Most of these walks are stroller and wheelchair friendly.

You can participate in most events at no charge!  Those who walk for credit are eligible for achievement awards for a modest credit fee, generally $3.00.  Awards include beautiful pins and colorful patches.  Frame-ready certificates are awarded for the distance you’ve covered as well as the number of events you’ve completed.

You don’t have to join a club to participate!  You are welcome to join one of our volkswalk clubs and participate in organization activities if you wish.

You may contact Kelly Troeh at (503) 380-3680 or by email at kellytroeh@yahoo.com.

We will be happy to help you find your way to a walk!
