History Lesson:  President Benjamin Harrison spent the night at the Calkins Hotel in 1891. The hotel burned down in 1908 and the walk goes by the site.

History Lesson:  On October 11, 1880, President Rutherford B. Hayes visited Seattle, WA. He rode the Seattle Walla Walla RR to visit the coal mines in Newcastle and Renton. He gave speeches in both locations before returning to Seattle. Both Newcastle walks follow a portion of the Seattle Walla Walla RR route.

History Lesson:  President George W. Bush dined at the Bill and Melinda Gates home on Evergreen Point Road in 2006. The walk goes along the length of Evergreen Point Road.

History Lesson:  Historic Vancouver walk is on city sidewalks along parks, historic buildings, Ft Vancouver, Pearson Airpark (oldest operating airport in the US) with views of majestic Mt Hood and the Columbia River. Lewis and Clark passed through here in 1805 and 1806. This is also a Civil War event as you will pass the Grant house and OO Howard House both named after the famous Civil War Generals. A Civil War Medal of Honor grave is also located along the route. The walk passes a monument to young Grant when he was stationed here and in charge of the potato farms.
