History Lesson:  Jimmy Carter grew up in rural Georgia during the Depression, the son of a farmer (James Sr.) and a nurse (Lillian). He attended Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia Tech, finally receiving a B. S. from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1947. On July 7, 1947, Carter married his sweetheart, Rosalyn Smith.

History Lesson:  The route goes to Turner Field, the site of the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics. President Bill Clinton officially opened the games in the opening ceremony at this site.

History Lesson:  The walk is primarily on shady sidewalks and surface streets through the town of Plains. A small portion of the walk is along the shoulder of a highway.   This walk covers a lot of interesting places where Jimmy Carter has been, including his present day home.
