History Lesson:  The City of Palm Beach, named for the many palm trees scattered across the island, has been an attraction for many of the world's wealthiest and most famous individuals since the early 1900's. Walk route takes you past the Breakers, an oceanfront 5 star hotel modeled after Rome's Villa Medici. The Breakers has stunning Italian Renaissance architecture. Flagler Museum, the former estate of Standard Oil Company millionaire, Henry Flagler, hailed as "more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world". St Edwards Catholic Church, attended by the Kennedy's, along Worth Avenue, one of the world's most exclusive shopping districts and much more. Located in SE Florida along the famous "Gold Coast".

President:  George H. W. Bush
Start Point:  Pensacola - 10km Walk (YR0345) Jan 2 - Dec 31

History Lesson:  Pass forts, the National Cemetery, parts of the old Navy Yard and the walls, two old Navy 'brigs', an old navy hospital dated from the Civil War and a lighthouse dated from 1821 that is used today. After the lighthouse, the walk returns to the museum.   The walk starts at the Naval Aviation Museum which houses an aircraft flown by the former President George Bush and a model of a to-be-constructed aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. President Bush, a former naval aviator who saw action in the Pacific theater and was shot down during World War II, has served as the honorary chairman of the Board for the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation since the spring of 1994. During the ceremony, a model of the soon-to-be constructed aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) was dedicated to the former President and is to become part of the museum's aircraft carrier display.

History Lesson:  The walk passes two tributes to President Andrew Jackson. One marks the site where General Jackson received West Florida from Spain and raised the flag of the United States July 12, 1821. The other marks the site of his residence when governor of Florida.
In Ferdinand Plaza at the corner of Government and Palafox streets, there is a bust of Andrew Jackson. The plaque on the monument reads: "In this plaza General Andrew Jackson received West Florida from Spain and raised the flag of the U.S. July 12, 1821. To recall the flags of five nations which have been raised in turn ten times over Pensacola Spain 1559-1719+1723-1763+1783-1821 France 1919-1723 Great Britain 1763-1783 United States of America 1821-1861+1862- Confederate States of America 1861-1862 Recalling that here was the center of life of this town and of the province of West Florida during the greater part of the colonial era. Erected by the Pensacola Historical Society 1935" Plaque on Abbotts Military Tailors at 200 S. Palafox reads: "Site of residence of General Andrew Jackson while Governor of Florida. 1821. Destroyed by fire 1839. Erected by the Pensacola Historical Society. 1935"
