TRAIL DESCRIPTION

Trail is used for cross country skiing during the winter.  A trip to the 6804' top is a challenging and rewarding climb to a scenic vista of the northern Black Hills. 

EVENT INFORMATION

Custer's 1874 expedition to the Black Hills named the peak for its leader.  Surprisingly the group made no attempt to climb the peak.  Watch for deer, turkey, quail, and other Black Hills inhabitants.

DIRECTIONS

The trails start at the Dumont Trailhead of the Mickelson Trail which can be accessed 7.2 miles south of Lead on the Rochford Road and park at the Dumont Trailhead.  The TH can also be accessed via highway 385, then left (east) on Custer Crossing and right (north ) on Rochford Road to the Dumont TH.
