TRAIL DESCRIPTION |
Trail is used as ski trails during the winter. At the 7153' peak is a fire tower, one of the principal towers in the area and offers breathtaking views, along with the views from the Grand Vista Overview. Beginning at the southern end, hikers ascend 1,000 feet in about 2 miles to Bear Mountain . |

EVENT INFORMATION |
Bear Mountain is the third highest point in the state and is the center of an uplift of Archean-age granite and gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the Black Hills. The trail winds through draws, pass through pine and spruce forests, skirts stands of aspen and travel a limestone rim. Wildlife is abundant in the area. According to Bear Mountain trail personnel elk and deer abound; coyotes, grouse and wild turkeys are sometimes glimpsed. |
