EVENT INFORMATION |
The
Black Hills gold rush was booming in 1880 when placer gold was discovered
near Rockerville. Gold processing was hampered by the lack of water
until the Black Hills Placer Mining Company constructed a flume to divert
water from Spring Creek. Construction of the flume was a massive
engineering project that involved the construction of 17.5 miles of canals
and troughs, digging two tunnels, building a dam near Sheridan and the
construction of trestles that were up to eighty feet high. |
